Hello there~ It’s been 4 years since I wrote for this ‘Recently’ blog series. It’s really just a space for me to ramble about what’s going on with my life and what I’ve been doing. I reckon it’s time for a lil’ update so here we go.
In the life
I’m in my third year of medical school. Medical school is hard af, that’s all I’m going to say.
Akash and I celebrated our 8th anniversary together two months ago. I’m so grateful for this man in my life. I love and adore him with all my heart. It’s so nice to have someone who loves you through thick and thin.
I’ve started reading (for leisure) again. I fell into a reading slump the past few years but I’m now reading regularly for fun again.
My parents opened a restaurant! I’m so proud of them. They worked so hard, day and night, to make their dream restaurant come to life. If you ever visit Thailand, please go visit our restaurant in Ayutthaya; it’s called DW Café and Restaurant. (Here’s the link on Google maps.) I promise you’d love the delicious food, the beautiful atmosphere and the excellent service :3
My sister got into medical school, and my brother started his first job ever. Proud big sister moments right here.
Books
I’m just going to write quick reviews of the books I’ve read so far. Note that I’ve only started reading in October of this year.
Books I’ve finished:
It Ends With Us by Colleen Hoover: 3/5. Some parts were cheesy, and the storyline was kinda predictable. However, this book got me to fall back in love with reading. Despite the cringe, Colleen knows how to keep you hooked to the story. The plot is fast paced, which I like. If you’re going to read this book, please read the trigger warnings beforehand.
Verity by Colleen Hoover: 5/5. This book got me staying up late at night. The story is so good! That plot twist at the end tho, omg.
All Your Perfects by Colleen Hoover: 3/5. The plot is not as interesting as It Ends With Us. I found it a bit boring. With that being said, my eyes were sweating at the end.
Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir: 3/5. There were a lot of maths, astronomy and stellar sciences with not much action going on. The ending made me smile tho.
It Starts With Us by Colleen Hoover: 3/5. I read it because I just wondered what happens to characters after they get to a ‘happily ever after’. I feel like the whole plot could be summarised in one chapter of the first book, ‘It Ends With Us’.
Books on ‘pause’
S.T.A.G.S. by M.A. Bennett: I don’t know if I’ll finish this book because it’s just so slow-paced. Maybe I just haven’t gotten to the good parts yet?
The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid: I’m 33% into the book and I don’t get all the hype? I hope it gets better but currently I find the plot quite plain.
Ugly Love by Colleen Hoover: I’m actually reading this book but it can get so cringey.. allow me to express my thoughts about this book (and Colleen Hoover overall) through a series of IG stories I posted recently:
Films
Don’t Worry Darling: 5/5. I loved it. The plot twist omg. I usually fall asleep during movies but every scene kept me on the edge of my seat.
Where the Crawdads Sing: 4/5. I can’t put a finger on why I enjoyed this movie but I remember being so invested in it.
Bullet Train: 4/5. This was fun to watch.
Archive: 4/5. The plot twist ahh !! Didn’t see it coming at all.
Enola Holmes 2: 4/5. This movie was entertaining throughout.
Synchronic: 2/5. The plot itself has so much potential but personally, I think the film just didn’t execute it well.
Troll: 1/5. So anti-climatic and not exciting. I don’t think it deserved to be #1 on Netflix movies…
TV shows
Guardian: The Lonely and Great God: 5/5. I’m re-watching this k-drama right now because why not ahah, it’s my all-time fave k-drama.
Blockbusters: 4/5. This was a light-hearted, fun series to watch.
1899: 5/5. This show was captivating and mind bending af but I wish the ending could explain more.
Wednesday: 5/5. Who doesn’t love this show? Jenna Ortega is my new favourite actress now; she played Wednesday so well ahh. I really enjoyed this series.
What are your thoughts on these books/films/shows? :)
With love,
Nana
