A letter to my future 30-year-old self

Nana September 16, 2021

Note: This letter was written on 22 August 2021.

Hi future me, it’s your 26-year-old self here. I got inspired to write this because I just read my old blog post ‘Replying to my 18-year-old self’. It’s currently August 2021 and to be honest with you, I’m just procrastinating right now. I’ve been studying for ETA5 (end of term assessment) for weeks, and it’s driving me nuts. (Edit (16 Sep 2021): I got my results today, and I passed the exam ahh. I also passed the Narrative Medicine essay. I can’t believe it but yeah, I’m really happy with my results :’))

But anyways, I hope you are doing well. I sincerely wonder if you graduated from medical school? Did you pass all of your exams and so you’re a junior doctor now? Or did you fail and dropped out of medical school? What are you doing for a living then? I’m so curious. Medicine is tough, man, and I haven’t even experienced the clinical placements yet. Did you even pass phase 1 of medical school? Hahh.

Are you married to Akash yet or are you still planning for the wedding? Do you guys have kid(s) yet? How’s the family doing?

Here are some random things about me, at this time:

  • I’m a huge fan of Olivia Rodrigo’s music. She recently released her debut album ‘SOUR’, and my favourite song is ‘good 4 u’. I had it on repeat for ages haha.

  • Me and Akash are watching Friends, the TV show, and we both are loving it.

  • I currently have about 800 songs in my ‘liked’ songs on Spotify. How many songs do you have (if you’re still using Spotify)? This month, the songs I keep on replaying are: ‘lullaby’ by Against The Current and ‘Back To That’ by Jared Lee.

  • Even though I’m in second year of medical school, I still don’t fully know if I want to be a doctor. So I hope by now, you figured that out, hah.

  • My weight has been fluctuating a lot this year. I am currently in a ‘maintenance’ phase I suppose, and I’m going into a ‘cut’ phase soon after the ETA5 exam. I really want to be slim and fit but god, why must food be so good? I wonder what you look like right now. Is your hair still dyed brown? Remember that you didn’t dye your hair for 3 years and this year, you dyed it a nice red-ish brown colour? My confidence had gone up a bit after dyeing my hair. I guess black hair doesn’t suit me much.

  • I’m taking driving lessons, and I get so anxious every single lesson. But I think my anxiety is getting better as I take more lessons. I’ve had 15 2-hour lessons so far. Driving scares me a lot but I’m working on it. I hope you got rid of the fear of driving by now please haha.

This is what I look like currently:

That’s all I can think of right now. It’d be cool if you could reply back to this letter when you turn 30. As always, if you’re going through a rough time right now, I hope things will get better. *hugs* If you’re having a great time then I’m happy for ya.

With love,

Nana
